A Unique Insight into the Businesses and Employees Benefiting from Hourly-Paid Work

Every day our rapidly-growing Deputy team hear from businesses, hourly-paid workers, policy makers, industry bodies and stakeholders about how Deputy’s employee management tools are making life easier for businesses and hourly-paid employees alike.

When we launched Deputy, we set out on a mission: to use technology to improve the lives of employers and employees, transforming business to help them thrive. We’d already seen first-hand the power of technology in streamlining business operations and we wanted others to benefit too.

Today, over 1 million users have benefited from Deputy tools globally, from Qantas to Gelato Messina, giving us a truly unique insight into how, when and why Australian businesses work with hourly-paid workers. Plus why employees opt for this style of work.

This crucial bird’s eye view of the policies and top-level decisions affecting hourly-paid workers has helped us build better tools. To tweak and refine our product to best suit our customers: some of the world’s biggest retail, hospitality, health, education and construction businesses.

Recently we realised that by sharing this knowledge, we could help decision makers make informed policy decisions and drive better outcomes for Australia’s hourly-paid workforce.

Today, we’re proud to launch the first Deputy Hourly-Paid Workforce Index — the first time we have shared our insights into how, when and where Australians work, to help inform better practice and policy decisions for this growing subset of the Aussie workforce.

We hope that the Index will provide a helpful insight into the characteristics of the hourly-paid workforce, the businesses employing them and the policies and employment trends affecting them daily.

This is increasingly important as we grapple with the rising gig-economy, flexible working policies and other workplace laws impacting hourly-paid employees, that have risen to the top of the agenda for policy makers and businesses alike.
